Step 1

Once the placenta is received, it is immediately labeled with mommy’s name.  The first step is rinsing the placenta of excess blood. If a placenta print is requested, the placenta is rinsed and food coloring is added to create your unique placenta art. The placenta is again rinsed and the encapsulation process begins.

Step 2

The placenta is steamed at minimum of 165 degrees (internally) per food safe handling guidelines. This process ensures any and all bacteria is eliminated and safe for consumption. Excessive heat is not recommended to ensure the integrity of the nutrients.

Lemon and ginger are used during the steaming process as they have antiseptic properties. They are also seen as “warming” properties to the body and used in Chinese traditional medicine to break down toxins.

Step 3

The placenta is cut into thin strips in preparation for the dehydration process.

Step 4

The placenta strips are put into the dehydrator for several hours. The process can take 12 or more hours. The placenta must be dehydrated thoroughly to eliminate any moisture.
